This MCP server provides integration with Zotero reference management software through a dual-component architecture: a Zotero plugin that runs an HTTP server within Zotero, and a standalone MCP server that communicates with it. Built using TypeScript with the Zotero Plugin Toolkit and MCP SDK, it exposes four core tools for pinging the server, searching the Zotero library, retrieving detailed item information by key, and finding items by DOI/ISBN identifiers. The implementation allows AI assistants to access bibliographic data, abstracts, tags, notes, and attachments from Zotero libraries, making it valuable for academic research workflows, literature reviews, and citation management tasks where programmatic access to reference data is needed.
