Prerequisites

Node.js or Homebrew environment, Summarize CLI or browser extension, supported local or hosted model backend, optional media dependencies for video and audio extraction

Installation

Use the upstream install or setup path that matches your environment:

• npx -y @steipete/summarize "https://example.com"
• npm i -g @steipete/summarize
• npm i @steipete/summarize-core
• brew install summarize

Requirements and caveats from upstream:

• Daemon is localhost-only and requires a shared token; rerunning summarize daemon install --token <TOKEN> adds another paired browser token instead of invalidating the old one.
• Requires Node 24+.

Basic usage or getting-started notes:

• The panel shows a token + install command. Run it in Terminal:

• The extension can’t run heavy extraction inside the browser. It talks to a local background service on 127.0.0.1 for fast streaming and media tools (yt‑dlp, ffmpeg, OCR, transcription).

• Windows containers: summarize daemon install starts the daemon for the current container session but does not register a Scheduled Task. Run it each time the container starts or add that command to your container star...
