Covers: design a product, improve X, productize a capability.","description":"# Product Sense Skill\n\nApply a structured framework to PM product sense / product design questions targeting AI product roles.\n\n## When to Use\n- User asks a \"Design a product for X\" question\n- User asks \"How would you improve X\"\n- User asks \"How would you productize X capability\"\n- User says `/product-sense` followed by a question\n- Any product design, product sense, or \"build a product\" interview question\n\n## Context\n- **Tuned for**: AI product roles at frontier AI companies\n- **What matters**: First-principles thinking, ambition, structured clarity, and taste\n- **Common pitfall**: Rushing to solutions without clarifying the problem first. Always start with clarifying questions.\n\n## Framework: Product Sense (6 Sections)\n\nGenerate the answer following this EXACT structure. Each section should be substantive - not just headers.\n\n### Section 1: Clarifications (ASK FIRST, ALWAYS)\nAsk 3-5 clarifying questions before proceeding. Categories:\n- **Scope**: What company are we? What's the form factor? Platform constraints?\n- **Users**: Who is the primary audience? B2C vs B2B vs B2B2C?\n- **Business**: What stage is the company? Revenue model? Strategic priorities?\n- **Technical**: What capabilities exist? What's feasible in the timeframe?\n- **Constraints**: Budget, timeline, regulatory, geographic?\n\nAfter listing questions, state reasonable assumptions for each and proceed.\n\n### Section 2: Product Strategy & Rationale (WHY BUILD THIS)\n- **Company Mission**: How does this align with the company's stated mission? Reference the specific company's mission statement and connect your product thinking to it.\n- **Trends & Tailwinds**: What macro trends make this timely? (AI adoption curves, regulatory shifts, user behavior changes)\n- **Competition**: Who else is doing this? What's the gap?\n- **Strategic Moat**: What unique advantage does this company have here?\n- **Product Goal**: One sentence on what we're building and why NOW\n\n### Section 3: User Segmentation (WHO)\nSegment users along 3 dimensions and pick a primary:\n- **Reach**: How many potential users in each segment?\n- **Frequency**: How often would they use this?\n- **Underserved**: How poorly served are they today?\n\nFor each segment provide: persona name, description, why they'd use this, current alternatives.\n\n**Pick primary segment** with clear rationale (usually: highest frequency + most underserved).\n\n### Section 4: User Journey & Pain Points (WHAT HURTS)\nMap the user journey for the primary segment:\n1. Discovery/Awareness\n2. Onboarding/First Use\n3. Core Usage Loop\n4. Retention/Return\n\nFor each stage, identify pain points scored on:\n- **Severity** (1-3): How painful is this?\n- **Frequency** (1-3): How often does it occur?\n- **Alternatives** (1-3): How well do current solutions address this?\n\n**Pick top 2-3 pain points** to solve. Justify the prioritization.\n\n### Section 5: Solutions (HOW)\nFor each selected pain point:\n\n**Brainstorm** (3-4 options per pain point, range from incremental to ambitious)\n\n**Evaluate** each on:\n- Impact on pain point (High/Med/Low)\n- Engineering effort (High/Med/Low)\n- Strategic alignment (High/Med/Low)\n- Differentiation (High/Med/Low)\n\n**Recommend** top solution with clear rationale. Describe:\n- What the user sees/experiences (be concrete and specific)\n- Key features for V1 vs V2\n- Why this is better than alternatives\n\n### Section 6: Success Metrics\n- **North Star Metric**: One metric that captures the core value delivered\n- **Supporting Metrics** (3-4): Leading indicators that the NSM will grow\n- **Counter/Guardrail Metrics** (2-3): What we must NOT break (safety, quality, trust)\n- **How to measure**: What instrumentation is needed?\n\n## AI Company Flavor\n\nWhen the question is about an AI company product, layer in:\n- **Safety considerations**: How does this product avoid harm? What guardrails exist?\n- **Model capabilities**: What model capabilities enable this? What's the technical frontier?\n- **Scaling dynamics**: How does this get better with more users/data?\n- **Mission alignment**: Tie back to the specific company's mission\n- **Taste**: Match the company's culture — some labs value ambitious, creative, step-change thinking; others value careful, principled, safety-first thinking; others value scientific rigor. Research the specific company's values beforehand.\n\n## Output Format\nStructure the response as a conversational walkthrough — structured but natural. Use the section headers. Aim for ~2500 words total. Flag where you'd pause for discussion or input.\n\n## Research-First Workflow\nBefore generating the answer:\n1. **Research** — Use web search to find latest thinking from AI company blogs, PM thought leaders, market data, competitor intel. Do 5-10 searches.\n2. **Cite sources** — Include `[linked source](url)` inline for major claims, data points, and trends.\n3. **Display** the complete structured answer.\n\n## What Good Looks Like\n- Starts with clarifying questions (CRITICAL)\n- Shows strategic thinking before jumping to solutions\n- User empathy is specific and grounded (not generic)\n- Solutions are creative AND feasible\n- Metrics are specific and tied to user value\n- Mentions trade-offs and what you'd NOT build\n- Ties back to company mission\n- Shows taste and opinion (not just framework execution)","tags":["product","sense","skills","aroyburman-codes","agent-skills","claude-code","claude-skills","frameworks","metrics","pm-tools","product-management","product-strategy"],"capabilities":["skill","source-aroyburman-codes","skill-product-sense","topic-agent-skills","topic-claude-code","topic-claude-skills","topic-frameworks","topic-metrics","topic-pm-tools","topic-product-management","topic-product-strategy"],"categories":["pm-skills"],"synonyms":[],"warnings":[],"endpointUrl":"https://skills.sh/aroyburman-codes/pm-skills/product-sense","protocol":"skill","transport":"skills-sh","auth":{"type":"none","details":{"cli":"npx
