Use this skill","description":"# IEEE Journal Writing\n\nHelp the user turn rough academic prose into clear, publication-ready IEEE-style writing without changing the technical meaning.\n\n## Goals\n\n- Preserve the author's claims, evidence, and intended emphasis.\n- Improve clarity, rigor, concision, and logical flow.\n- Prefer neutral, evidence-driven phrasing over promotional language.\n- Keep the result LaTeX-ready when the user is working in `.tex` files.\n\n## When Working\n\nFirst identify what kind of help the user wants:\n\n- polish a sentence or paragraph\n- rewrite a full section\n- align a manuscript with IEEE tone\n- improve structure and flow\n- tighten claims for technical accuracy\n- make LaTeX prose cleaner and more consistent\n\nMatch the depth of the response to the request. If the user asks for a direct rewrite, give the rewrite first. If the user asks for critique, explain the issues first and then propose fixes.\n\n## Core Writing Principles\n\n### Preserve Meaning\n\nDo not introduce unsupported claims, new results, fake citations, or stronger novelty language than the source justifies. If the draft is ambiguous, resolve it conservatively.\n\n### Prefer Clarity Over Formulaic Stiffness\n\nAim for formal academic tone, but do not make the prose robotic. Use passive voice when it improves objectivity or aligns with the surrounding text, but prefer whichever construction is clearer and more compact.\n\nPrefer moderate sentence length. If a sentence starts carrying method, result, implication, and comparison all at once, split it into two tighter sentences.\n\n### One Paragraph, One Job\n\nGive each paragraph a clear function. Start with the main point, develop it with evidence or explanation, and remove sentences that repeat nearby material.\n\n### Keep Claims Proportional\n\nUse measured language. Replace hype, certainty inflation, and vague praise with concrete statements about method, data, comparisons, limits, and practical implications.\n\n### Favor Specific Technical Language\n\nReplace filler phrases and abstract wording with direct verbs, concrete nouns, and, when available, quantities or comparisons.\n\n## IEEE-Oriented Style Guidance\n\n- Define acronyms on first use and keep terminology consistent afterward.\n- Prefer precise, neutral statements over marketing language.\n- Present methods and results objectively.\n- Emphasize reproducibility, methodological detail, and evidence-backed conclusions.\n- Avoid first-person pronouns by default, including `we`, unless the user explicitly wants to preserve an existing first-person house style.\n- Keep sentences compact. Split overloaded sentences that try to carry multiple claims.\n\n## Flow Between Sentences\n\nMake adjacent sentences connect cleanly.\n\n- Let the first sentence establish context or the main claim.\n- Let the next sentence narrow to method, evidence, or limitation.\n- Avoid choppy sentence-to-sentence jumps where each sentence feels isolated.\n- When revising abstracts and introductions, prefer a clear progression such as problem -> method -> result -> implication.\n\n## Structure Checks\n\nWhen revising a section, look for these issues:\n\n1. missing problem statement or motivation\n2. weak transitions between paragraphs\n3. repeated claims across sections\n4. method descriptions that are too vague to follow\n5. results stated without context, comparison, or takeaway\n6. conclusions that overstate significance\n\nFix the issue in the rewrite rather than merely pointing it out, unless the user asked for review only.\n\n## LaTeX Conventions\n\nIf the user is editing a LaTeX manuscript:\n\n- Preserve LaTeX commands, labels, citations, math, and cross-references.\n- Use `\\cite{}` keys already present in the manuscript rather than inventing new references.\n- Keep `\\ref{}` and `\\label{}` usage consistent.\n- Do not break equations, macros, or environments during rewriting.\n- Return text that can be pasted back into the `.tex` source with minimal cleanup.\n\n## Response Patterns\n\n### Small Rewrite Requests\n\nReturn:\n\n1. the revised text\n2. a short note on what improved, only if useful\n\nIf a single-sentence rewrite becomes long or crowded, prefer two shorter sentences with a tighter logical link.\n\nUnless the user asks for labels, avoid adding headings like `Revised text:` before a short rewrite.\n\n### Section-Level Rewrites\n\nReturn:\n\n1. a polished LaTeX-ready section\n2. brief notes on major structural or stylistic changes\n3. any factual gaps or citation gaps that still need author input\n\n### Review-Only Requests\n\nReturn:\n\n1. the main writing issues\n2. concrete recommended edits\n3. optional sample rewrites for the most important passages\n\n## Editing Heuristics\n\nDuring revision, actively look for and remove patterns such as:\n\n- \"it should be noted that\"\n- \"it is worth mentioning that\"\n- empty novelty claims like \"very innovative\" or \"highly effective\"\n- repeated restatement of the same contribution\n- broad claims not tied to data, experiments, or citations\n- unnecessary first-person wording such as `we propose`, `we develop`, or `we show` when the sentence works better as an impersonal construction\n\nAlso check whether adjacent sentences can be merged for flow or split for readability.\n\n## Technical Content Safeguards\n\n- Keep enough methodological detail for a knowledgeable reader to follow the work.\n- Do not rewrite away important assumptions, limits, or implementation details.\n- If a claim appears unsupported, soften the wording rather than pretending the evidence exists.\n- If terminology conflicts across the draft, normalize it to one consistent term unless the distinction is meaningful.\n\n## Output Quality Bar\n\nBefore finishing, make sure the revision is:\n\n- faithful to the source meaning\n- more concise than the original unless detail was missing\n- easier to read sentence by sentence\n- consistent in terminology and tense\n- suitable for an IEEE-style engineering paper\n\n## Example Behaviors\n\n**Input:** \"Rewrite this abstract to sound more like an IEEE journal paper, but keep the contribution exactly the same.\"\n\n**Output:** Provide a tighter abstract with neutral claims, clearer problem-method-result flow, and no added technical content.\n\n**Input:** \"Please edit this LaTeX introduction and keep all citations and refs untouched.\"\n\n**Output:** Return revised LaTeX prose that preserves `\\cite{}` and `\\ref{}` commands while improving flow and concision.","tags":["ieee","journal","writing","skills","isomoes","agent-skills"],"capabilities":["skill","source-isomoes","skill-ieee-journal-writing","topic-agent-skills","topic-skills"],"categories":["skills"],"synonyms":[],"warnings":[],"endpointUrl":"https://skills.sh/isomoes/skills/ieee-journal-writing","protocol":"skill","transport":"skills-sh","auth":{"type":"none","details":{"cli":"npx
